The third Sharjah Architecture Triennial, Architecture Otherwise: Building Civic Infrastructure for Collective Futures, explores how architecture can contribute to collective life amid rapid urbanisation, environmental change, conflict and displacement. Curated by Vyjayanthi Rao, with Tau Tavengwa as Associate Curator, the edition brings together 35 participants working across architecture, art, design, urbanism and research to examine the relationships, practices and forms of knowledge through which communities shape their environments.
Unfolding across Sharjah city and the wider Emirate, installations, films, archives, performances and public programmes engage questions of migration, care, food systems, heritage, climate adaptation and collective memory. Projects draw on local histories and everyday experiences to consider architecture as an evolving civic practice, sustained through exchange, solidarity and shared agency.
Running from 14 November 2026 to 14 April 2027, the Triennial opens with six days of conversations, workshops, screenings, tours and live interventions, inviting audiences to engage directly with its projects and the possibilities they propose for living together.
