Drawing on La Monte Young’s influential 1963 publication An Anthology of Chance Operations and its role in the emergence of Fluxus, Chance Operations brings together eleven artists, architects, designers and photographers invited by ALL PROJECTS to devise their own chance-based interventions. Spanning speculative plans, failed constructions and works shaped by public encounters, weather and the passage of time, the exhibition loosens the curator’s guiding hand and embraces indeterminacy as a productive force. In doing so, it redistributes authorship across maker, material, tool and environment, exploring what chance might generate when returned from the democratic space of the book to the institutional setting of the gallery.
