Since 2015, husband and wife Anne Holtrop and Noura Al-Sayeh Holtrop have played central roles in reshaping Muharraq. In a joint lecture, entitled Site: Bahrain, the couple reflect on that project and their wider role in forging a progressive architecture culture from their home in Bahrain.
Anne Holtrop is a Dutch architect known for projects ranging from Museum Fort Vechten to Bahrain’s Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 and key Pearling Path landmarks such as the Siyadi Pearl Museum and Suq al-Qaysariya.
Palestinian architect and curator Al-Sayeh Holtrop serves as Advisor for Heritage Projects at the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities,. She co-curated Bahrain’s debut at the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale, which won the Golden Lion.
