The landfill as a sacrificial site of contamination should not exist. Our proposal reimagines the landfill as an archive of waste, which is integrated as an essential part of the city’s civic layer. ‘Dumping’ on the site will be stratified linearly as the direct act of archiving. Waste deposited strives to be an honest sample of the remnants to our material ecologies, with the health of the land reflecting the health of our urban ecologies. Instead of disparaging wastelands as a sacrificial site, we envision that landfill will become a political commons through its apparent visibility and collective stewardship.
