Viva Voce: An Election Procession straddles the jubilance of the Macy’s Parade and the civic weight of Election Day. As an ongoing research project, the work envisions the potential urban choreography of American voting practices amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic’s impact on the 2020 primaries reveals further spatial challenges, illustrating the urgency to reimagine methods for maintaining the institutions of constitutional democracy in this moment. The project occurs during the ongoing second-wave of the pandemic in New York City in the fall, and stages a machine-driven parade in Central Park that combines voting and widespread virus testing- strengthening the voice of the popular vote.
