Totem of Temporality
studio2am & Bachir Benkirane
What happens when we combine temporality and permanency in a physical form? In the city of Tbilisi, we collected trash from the vicinity and used a transparent, porous material to eternalize and showcase the waste we collectively generate. The result of this mixture is a utilitarian object: a stool. For the Biennial, these stools are stacked on each other to form a single totem: serving as a reminder.
Located near the Lilo landfill, the totem is visually related to the site, raising awareness about our everyday usage and habits, and showcasing the impact of mass consumerism.
