What does it mean to dwell? Although typically unnoticed, we posit that one conducts their day-to-day affairs as an implicit “existential spatiality” that grounds everyday, architectural notions of a dwelling or home. This familiarity with the significance and interrelatedness of things, a context that coalesces on the basis of the proximal states and involvements that we navigate, reveals physical space to us as a constantly evolving flux. A unit’s performativity must be sought in its deference to this underlying, Heideggerian notion that encompasses the breadth of everyday lived space and its atmospheres.
