Fundamentally, Rotterdam has always been about the port. Although today a much more diverse population is constantly changing Rotterdam’s identity, the future of this city departs from its industrial and working-class heritage. “De Dépendance” (the client) is a platform for city culture and public debate. The organization has been travelling through Rotterdam since 2015 with the city as its stage (each event held in a different location). Continuing this idea in a new permanent home and also to giving ground for participants to explain, interpret and critically reflect on the processes in the city, the design seeks to reflect the context of Rotterdam. To convey the essence of the port, the principled ideas of the automated world were translated into the space of the salon.
The project was developed within the context of TU Delft.
