In 2009/2010, amidst the aftershock of the global financial crisis and at the dawn of social media and artificial intelligence, SO–IL debuted its first architectural project titled “Pole Dance” at MoMA/PS1 in New York City. Accepting that the Cartesian world is the only one we inhabit, “Pole Dance” attempts to break its subject-object dichotomy by collapsing the pole dancers with the dancing poles, resulting in an elastic, fragile, receptive and resilient grid that we are no longer bystanders but a necessary part of.
