Peatlands are a complex ecosystem where rapid plant growth and low decomposition rates in oxygen-free conditions lead to peat accumulation. Occupying 3% of the Earth's land area, they hold 2 times more CO2 than all forests. With the advent of large-scale reclamation for industrialized agriculture and peat extraction, peatlands began to degrade. This has had severe ecological, economic and socio-cultural consequences. This project proposes a step-by-step reorganization of the processes in order to restore the landscape. Traditional agriculture and peat extraction are transformed into paludiculture, which can bring economic benefits without harming the environment. In addition, tourism infrastructure is developed in the restored areas, bringing profit for further restoration on the one hand and relieving the undrained peatlands from people on the other. The project was developed within the context of the Belarusian National Technical University.
