Mechanical Time and Body Time
Jiageng Guo

In mechanical time, life is governed by strict routines: rising at 7 o'clock, lunch at noon, supper at 6, working 40 hours a week, making love between 8-10 pm, and reading the Sunday newspaper on Sunday. In body time, life flows freely: eating when hungry, sleeping when tired, working upon waking, and making love at any hour.

Inspired by Alan Lightman's novel, this Chapel uses the interplay of mechanical and body time as a design catalyst. By transcribing opposing rituals, it seeks alternative tectonic expressions through architecture.
