Whenever we refer to a community, we are reminded about collective memories, through which a group bases its sense of belonging and therefore its identity. When external forces impose themselves on such relational system, they alter this connection on both physical and intangible levels. The case of Tripoli is emblematic: the flood of the Abu Ali River and urban planning practices imported from the West severely damaged the urban fabric of parts of the city, besides the intangible heritage generating Tripoli’s river community. The project, developed within the context of the Politecnico of Milan, lays the foundations for a possible authentic redevelopment of a community through an inventive hybridization.
