Honourable mention / July Call for Drawings

Fringe Matters explores an alternative reading of Whitby's past, present, and future, as a case study for inclusive spatial actions. Looking at how the biannual Whitby Goth Weekend affects public space and social encounters, the drawing visualises eight spatial tools that allows for interaction, for spaces to merge, and for communities to coexist. Fringe Matters explores material and administrative opportunities in direct relation to the existing build environment, toward a collaborative practice of making the biannual everyday. They are not a prescriptive manual; rather, suggestions for how design can be more inclusive, open-minded, and collective in practice.
