ELSEWHERE, OR ELSE WHERE? is an architectural fever dream about the San Francisco Bay Area. Beginning with the premise that two common ideas of Place—Home and Elsewhere—are no longer useful, the project wonders how disciplinary tools of architecture can be used to shape new stories about where we are. This thesis is situated both in the literal spaces of Elsewhere and Home and in their socially constructed space. It asks Elsewhere, or else where?, in search of a place like Home. How does architecture see? How could we see differently? How do we build what we see? Four sets of drawings and models utilize techniques of architectural representation and construction to ask questions about four sites of Home and Elsewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area, each selected because of varying conditions of adjacency and collision between loaded ideas of place.
