El nacimiento de un río [Birth of a River] tells the story of a rural, futuristic, and utopian village of nomadic structures, built in a valley along a once-mighty river. The city rapidly expanded, spreading from its center to the periphery almost overnight. The population multiplied swiftly, and as the city grew, it replaced the natural water sources with concrete structures. One day, the valley awoke to find itself buried underground—the land that supported the city had fragmented, consuming the metropolis and leaving behind only the ruins of a few building terraces. After this catastrophe, the valley flooded, nature reclaimed its space, and the river was born again.

This is a narrative illustration submitted for an illustration call that took place in November 2023. The aim of the call was to gather diverse ideas about what the city of Medellín, Colombia, could become in the future.
