This project speculates a contemporary reworking of traditional English Village vernacular. The visuals form a wider body of research that was initial started as a reaction to the government’s Garden Village proposals. This asks the question, what truly makes an English village and what could the potential form of a contemporary garden village be? Seeking inspiration from 19th century landscape painting, the work attempts to recapture the picturesque qualities of traditional village scenes whilst proposing novel forms of architectural and landscape design.
