Becoming the City: Performative Marketplace
Geraldine Lewa
"Becoming the City: Performative Marketplace" investigates the urban environment, and how communities can help to construct cities through choreography and performative design. Situated in Melbourne’s Chinatown, the project suggests a speculative typology of interaction within unfamiliar and underutilised areas. In order to do so, the Corrs Lane Car Park calls for a reimagining of existing frameworks to make space for ad hoc communal activities between current and emerging artists, makers, and vendors. Through creating this deployable ensemble, this project refocuses attention on a collaborative interior that embraces the past, present, and future developments of Chinatown.
