"Architecture After Comfort“ is a University course at Institute of Architecture
and Design at TU Wien involving 20 students. Initiated by Jakob Sellaoui at the Chair for Building Theory by Design, the project challenges conventional notions of thermal comfort and its deep entanglement with modern architecture. Drawing from Daniel A. Barber’s research on the subject, the project interrogates how climate control shapes human expectations, material choices, and architectural practice. By combining theoretical inquiry with hands-on construction, the project explores discomfort as a critical tool for rethinking design.
